Press Effects

The world is shrinking in terms of secrecy and knowing that it is round not flat. We owe international press agencies a great debt for working to expose false practices, beliefs, causes and situations. However, the general fact is that with the shrinking world comes a growing sense of foreboding that certain factions may not be at work to promote their needs and wants at the expense of the world community. Individual reporters have to be held accountable to reporting the story as an objective bystander not as if he were involved in the story as has become the practice of many news agencies both local and worldwide. If news is to be reported as a press release, it should be a press release.

If the reporter has the need to become the story then he should work as a human interest reporter with clear documentation of his own particular bias. There is propaganda but there is also reporter bias that the editor may not pick up or may have joined with the reporter to report as news. The effects of the press are making the world a community of people rather than an area of countries. The danger lies in the extent to which the press which tells us what our neighbors are doing, are actually telling us the truth. An old saying goes like this, believe half of what you hear and even less of what you read. As an intelligent person in the world community you should, of course, know that the effect of the press are deep, real, and eventually become part of the human store of information which leads to beliefs and attitudes. To censor the press is a dangerous thing. But to give it full sway without boundaries can also be dangerous.
